Stained Glass
Things are getting exciting in the studio regarding stained glass. As a specialist in glass etching I have been kept busy with that pretty much my entire career. On occasion over the years though I have been able to sneak over enough to become a proficient stained glass craftsman. We’ve had an opportunity recently to significantly expand our art-glass inventory to the point where I can now (for the first time really) build some serious windows.
Click on the image to the left to see some examples of what I’m going to get to work with. Most are approximately actual sized (or a little enlarged) and lit with fluorescent light.
In stained glass, sometimes it’s the materials you use that can inspire the artwork. While I was putting different pieces on the light table to get these photos, I was becoming increasingly emotional. Human beings aren’t much as artists when compared to nature itself, but they make a good team sometimes when they work together as in the case of these poured glass masterpieces. The photos don’t portray the whole depth that can be seen in the lit pieces. When we move, or when the light changes, the glass changes with it. Ideas come with each new piece. Endless possibilities. After photographing for an hour, I had to stop – overwhelmed.
